As members of the ELCIC we are a people called to be In Mission for Others . Increasingly, it is becoming clear that the "others" that we are to care for must include God’s creation. We are learning that Christ’s command to love one another, and to care for the “least of these” must now include all of creation. We are remembering what the early Church knew, that Christ came to redeem all of creation. So, as a church, as we celebrate our Evangelical Declaration.  We commit our selves to practice our Stewardship of Creation   source:  www.elcic.ca

What does Greening of the Parish mean?

to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada?

Here in BC, our Synod - the Faith and Society Committee - together with the Anglican Church of Canada, met in 2007 for a "Greening of the Parish" conference.  Those attending returned to their congregations full of ideas and energy to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet.  At the 2008 Synod Convention, a motion was made, and carried, that all congregations of our Synod adopt the "Green Parish Accreditation Program".

Being a Greening Congregation means that we commit to take steps to live out our calling to be stewards of creation.  A group of interested individuals meets regularly to discuss our congregation's "footprint", to explore options, priorities and make recommendations to council.  We had already replaced narthex and hallway lights with more energy efficient ones.  You've probably noticed we have more recycling boxes available for used paper.  An energy assessment completed by BC Hydro came up more ways we can become more energy efficient, and we'll be researching ways to implement some of these in the months to come.

Environmental stewardship touches many areas of our church administration and  congregational life, including:
